[The Highwayman 01] The Highwayman

A really, really long time ago, I wrote a few lines as the seed for a short story about a man on the run from his wife’s wrath after selling her dog to a martian. Then I forgot all about it.

A long time after that, I took that snippet and turned it into a novel called “Honest, the Martian Ate Your Dog” as a test for a novel writing app that I was coding for my wife at that time.…

Oh, Those Annoying AirBnB-ers

I had very little sleep last night. It’s those darn annoying AirBnB guests. So strap in for another story of entitlement, lying, and outright sense of privilege πŸ˜›

It was around 8:30pm last night and we hear people shouting “Happy birthday!” out in the hallway. I think both of us immediately went into “wary” mode because we knew what was coming based on previous experiences.…

One Ring to Track Them All

Till a few months ago, I didn’t think a fitness tracker would be of any benefit for me.

I thought a fitness tracker was something somebody who led an active life-style β€” a jogger, a swimmer, or somebody who went to the gym regularly β€” needed but not for somebody like me, someone who sat at the desk (or rather on the couch) the whole day in front of a computer.…

Oops, AirBnB Did It Again!

It’s 4:30am and I’ve been up since 1:00am β€” it’s those pesky AirBnB guests again!

AirBnB closed the last complaint we had about noise from our neighbouring apartment saying that the host had been unaware of any issues and that the host promised to inform their guests to prevent noise issues in future. In fact, what they said was:

We have taken the appropriate measures with the Airbnb host and guest in question and gave them some suggestions on how to address the issue in the future.

Diaries & Blogs & Sites, Oh My!

I had originally planned to write this post to introduce this new blog. But real-life events intruded in the form of AirBnB guests and not getting much sleep (you can read all about that here). But here’s the original post … finally!

As long as I can remember, my Dad has maintained a diary. When I was young, I used to see him scribbling away every day and had no idea what he was doing.…

The Curious Case of AirBnB

We live in a condo apartment and we’ve had noise issues (and other issues) from a neighbouring apartment four times running over the course of the past few weeks.

At first, we didn’t think much of it. In fact, the first time we noticed anything, we noticed a strong, sickly sweet smell in our apartment in the middle of the night.…

The Emissary

When I wrote The Doll, I had a vague idea of writing a few further stories about the doll soon, but had no clear idea of what I wanted to write about. But then I saw the above image, (or rather the original here) by Nazly Ahmed and a new story started taking shape in my head …

Many thanks to Nazly for his kind permission to use (and to modify) his photo to suit my story!…

The Doll

Around the beginning of the year, Nazly Ahmed tweeted a photo (or rather, two photos) which made me pause. I wondered what the story behind that image was but then forgot about it for the time being.

Yesterday, Nazly tweeted about a story that Milani B. had written based on his photograph. The story is in Sinhala so some of you might not be able to read itβ€Šβ€”β€Šand that’s a pity since it’s a good old Sri Lankan horror story, like the ones I used to read as a child.…

iOS 14β€Šβ€”β€ŠNew List Set Up Using UIListContentConfiguration and UIListContentView

iOS 14 is here upon usβ€Šβ€”β€Šor at least, for those of us who use (and develop for) Apple devices. And with its arrival, it brings along a host of changes to how things are coded for iOS devices.

One thing that appears to have changed that I didn’t notice at all at first was the new way to handle list views.…

Oculus Quest 2 unboxing and first impressions

As you might have realized if you read my post on the Oculus Quest 2 and Business Apps, I’m very excited about the possibilities presented by the Oculus Quest 2 πŸ˜ƒ

So, I was just waiting for my new Oculus Quest 2 to arrive so that I could try it out. It arrived yesterday, but due to how deliveries are handled at our apartment building, I could not get my hands on it till early in the morning today.…
